Here are some frequently asked questions you may have before you start therapy. If you can't find an answer here you can contact us via the contacts page.
The length of time it takes to see results from counselling sessions with Windrush Therapy varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term therapy.
As a member of the BACP, I work and abide by their Ethical framework for counselling professionals. This provides a very comprehensive framework to working in a safe way for both my clients and also myself.
Windrush Therapy provides counselling services for individuals of all ages, including children, adolescents, and adults.
Payment is made in advance of the booked session by electronic transfer. Full details on payment will be provided as part of our terms and conditions.
Individual sessions last for 50 minutes exactly and are held on the same day and time each week. This is important to the therapeutic process.
As I have no waiting room facilities you will need to arrive and leave on time for your session as these cannot be extended without impacting other booked clients
You can end your counselling with Windrush Therapy at any time but it is best to have a couple of sessions to create a good ending to the relationship. To notice what has been achieved and what is still to be explored in the future. We will discuss endings between us when needed. We will also have regular reviews on what is working and what needs to change to be more effective for you.
In the first assessment session, we will form a contract between us so it is clear what is expected and where the boundaries to our therapeutic relationship exist. This will help provide a safe and trusted working environment for both you as the client and myself as the Therapist.
In the first instance please discuss this with your Counsellor / Therapist. We can then plan the best approach to try to accommodate life's changes for you so you can continue.
This is probably one of the most asked questions for people new to this work. There is no one answer, however counselling tends (although not always) to be shorter focused work aimed at exploring an issue that the client has in their life such as divorce or bereavement. Psychotherapeutic modalities such as psychodynamic /psychoanalytical therapy look at emotional behaviours and patterns that may be impacting on the quality of life for a client. Often exploring childhood and developmental experiences. Psychiatry treats psychosis such as hallucinations, delusions and uncontrolled behaviour. As psychiatrists are medically trained Doctors, treatment can involve the prescription of drugs as part of the treatment.
Before you start your counselling sessions we will provide a list of things to consider dependent on the method of service delivery. E.g. if the session is on-line you will need to find a quiet space where you will not be disturbed by other people. If the session is in person and is individual one to one therapy, no one else will be able to attend the session with you. However there are exceptions, where a client has specific needs such as an interpreter or the first session with young people. Individual needs are best discussed with your therapist.
